amalia’s story
Amalia is a Greek-American with family roots in Epirus - a region of Greece nestled between the Pindus Mountains and the Ionian Sea. She has been drawn to cooking since she was a little girl, always sneaking into the kitchen on Saturday mornings to watch her yiayia bake bread and make her pitas. This loving space provided warmth and comfort. From a very young age, she learned the true meaning of family and tradition.
Amalia’s Yiayia (Grandma in Greek) stressed the importance of using local and fresh seasonal foods, the finest ingredients, herbs, spices, and olive oil. Each recipe tells a story, and it is her way of keeping her yiayia alive in her kitchen and forever in her heart. She grew up with simple, traditional food rich in fullness and flavor. She’s a self-taught cook turned culinary enthusiast, sharing dishes influenced by her yiayia and mother.
She aims to share family recipes from her childhood and her passion for Greek culture, inspiring you to explore and cook authentic Mediterranean dishes. She turned her enthusiasm for cooking and entertaining into a career with the launch of my boutique catering business, Amalia Culinary Art.
Opening the café was the natural next step in bringing Amalia’s family’s table to yours. She wanted to create a warm, inviting place where people could gather and experience the same hospitality, flavors, and traditions that shaped her. This brick-and-mortar space is her way of honoring her yiayia’s legacy, a story of love and tradition, filling the space with laughter of friends, and the timeless spirit of Greek generosity and connection. Amalia’s hope is that every guest feels like part of her extended family when they walk through these doors.
